Matthew Barney

The part of Barney’s work that i found to be most powerful and interesting to me were the soundtracks to each of his videos.  So, i guess i’m a bigger fan of Bjork than I am of Barney.  I have to give it to him though, the filming for the Cremasters must have taken a lotttt of time and persistence to complete.  Do we know how long each one took to make?  Some of the images combined with the music were very powerful.  however, outside of the asethetic value of his works, i didn’t really feel much of a deeper meaning.  is there supposed to be one?

Michelle Lopez

I liked Lopez’s work, its just seemed lighthearted and fun to me.  I’ve come to really like artists who take found objects or just mundane things and turn them into interesting new creations.  That what i think i enjoyed the most about the cardboard blow-up project from our studio.  The Hari-Kari piece was probably my favorite of her works, just soo much going on it. Plus, the little tubes branch out into the rest of the room and make the audience feel like they are in the work.  The only thing i couldn’t figure out from her work was her message; what is she trying to say with it all?

Daniel Joseph Martinez

I like Martinez because he just doesn’t seem to care what people think of him for the work he does.  All he seems to care about is getting his message out there. Sometimes they are about important issues in the world today, and sometimes they are just random statements.  One of his pieces that I found interesting was the billboard that says “The fully enlightened earth radiates disaster triumphant.”  I honestly have not idea what that is supposed to mean exactly, but i would be remember it if i drove by that on the interstate!
